L.K. and her family of seven moved to Hawai'i from the Marshall Islands in search of new opportunities.

But the family has barely been able to pay rent, much less buy diapers or even food.

L.K.'s husband, D.K., works as a deliveryman during the day. L.K. used to work at night at a theater concession stand. But recently she learned that her hours would be cut.

"Christmastime is really hard," L.K. said. "I really want to look for more work."

The family barely has enough for the most basic needs, said the family's social worker.

L.K. also worries that her children will likely go without presents this Christmas.

L.K.'s 17-year-old daughter is pregnant and recently dropped out of school. The family's social worker said the daughter is experiencing several complications related to the pregnancy.

Both D.K. and his wife would like to take college courses but are finding it difficult to take care of their children and hold jobs at the same time.

The family is frequently behind on bills and always needs donations of food and other necessities, said the caseworker.

Because some of the children sleep on the floor, L.K. would like a bunk bed. The couple's five children could also use clothes.

The couple's daughters, ages 2 and 10, and their 4-year-old son would like toys. L.K.'s 9-month-old baby boy needs clothes as he continues to grow.

Our anonymous Santa will match the first $25 of each donation to the Christmas Fund.

Christmas Fund donations are used for families who need help through the holidays. Any money remaining after the holidays will be used to help those in need throughout the year.
