DRIVE TIME
Career transit official to run TheBus

By Mike Leidemann

After a nationwide search, the people who run O'ahu Transit Services have decided that the best man to run TheBus operations was right here in Honolulu.

The transit service announced last week the appointment of J. Roger Morton to the position of president and general manager.

Morton, who began his transit career as a county worker in Honolulu in 1974, replaces James Cowen, who died in July.

Morton previously had served as senior vice president and director of operations for OTS.

The transit service operates 92 routes, with a fleet of 525 buses and a weekly ridership of about 218,000. It has about 1,750 employees.
