Pali reopened after fatal accident

Advertiser Staff

All lanes of the Pali Highway were reopened at 10 a.m. today following an early-morning accident that killed a 35-year-old Kailua man.

Police said the man was killed around 1:42 a.m. when his car went over the embankment and landed 40 feet below the roadway, forcing police to close all Kailua-bound lanes of Pali Highway. The crash was on the windward side of the second Pali Tunnel.

The death is O'ahu's 77th traffic fatality of the year and second in two days. There were 67 total traffic deaths on the island in 2004.

Police were informed yesterday that a 63-year-old woman pedestrian injured on Dec. 19 while crossing Dillingham Boulevard in Kalihi died at The Queen's Medical Center at 2:35 p.m.

The medical examiner's office identified the woman as Adoracion DelaCruz. It was the 28th pedestrian death this year.
