Wie will play in France

Associated Press

Honolulu teenager Michelle Wie has accepted an invitation to play in the Evian Masters in France, and a new policy adopted late last year by the LPGA Tour makes it possible for the 15-year-old to play in the Women's British Open.

That would give Wie eight starts on the LPGA Tour this year, including all four majors.

Wie will open her LPGA schedule at home in SBS Open at Turtle Bay, Feb. 24 to 26.

BJ Wie said today that his daughter, a sophomore at Punahou School, has been offered a sponsor's exemption to play the Evian Masters for the second straight year.

Meanwhile, Golfweek Magazine cited a source close to the Ladie s Golf Union as saying Wie would be offered one of the two invitations for top amateurs to the Women's British Open.
