About 2,000 Army and Marine Corps personnel from Hawai'i laced up their running shoes and braved sub-zero temperatures to participate in their version of the Great Aloha Run at four bases in Afghanistan on Sunday. Instead of paying the usual $25 entry fee, the troops collected donations for Afghan charities, including $1,200 raised by Task Force Thunder for an orphanage. The troops ran at Forward Operating Base Salerno and at Bagram, Kandahar and Shindand airfields.
