Heavy rains stop UH-HPU scrimmage

Heavy rains in the top of the fourth inning halted a scrimmage between the University of Hawai'i and Hawai'i Pacific with the Rainbow Wahine ahead 1-0.

The 'Bows scored in the first inning. Tracie Uchima singled to start the inning, and eventually advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Noelle Izumi. Ashley Ruff's infield single scored Uchima.

Senior Melissa Coogan started the game for UH, retiring six of the seven batters she faced in two innings.

Redshirt freshman Jessica Morton took over for Coogan in the third and, thanks to a sterling defensive play at third by Valana Manuma Aloy, worked out of a two-on, one-out situation.

The 'Bows threatened in the third when Tara Harbert walked, stole second and took third on a groundout. She then tried to score on a grounder back to the pitcher, but was tagged out on a close play.
