Small stream flood advisory issued

Advertiser Staff

Communities from Kane'ohe to Hawai'i Kai are under an urban and small stream flood advisory through 11:15 a.m. today, the National Weather Service said.

Forecasters monitoring the moisture-laden weather system that has hung over the island for days found heavy showers over east O'ahu that were moving south at 15 mph this morning.

The advisory affects Kane'ohe, Marine Corps Base, Hawai'i, Kailua, Waimanalo, Honolulu, Niu Valley, Kuli'ou'ou and Hawai'i Kai.

Runoff from the storm will create standing water in low-lying areas and those with poor drainage. The weather service advises motorists to avoid driving through these areas.

Although there was no heavy rainfall overnight, a flash-flood watch remains in effect today for O'ahu, Moloka'i, Maui, Lana'i and the Big Island. Heavy showers and thunderstorms are possible over the islands today, the weather service said.
