Kageyama named top Casper GM

Ed Kageyama, PGA general manager for Ka'anapali Golf Courses and Aloha Section PGA president, was named General Manager of the Year by Billy Casper Golf (BCG), a nationwide golf management company.

BCG manages more than 50 golf courses across the United States, including Puakea on Kaua'i.

"Ed has been and continues to be an important member of Billy Casper Golf, excelling in several customer service and managerial areas," BCG chairman and chief executive officer Peter Hill said. "For his leadership, Ed is very deserving of this award."

Open sectionals back

Hawai'i has U.S. Open Sectional qualifiers back for a second year. The men will play at Ka'anapali North June 6, and the women are again at Ko Olina Golf Club June 13.

Local men's qualifying is on four islands: Po'ipu Bay, Kaua'i (May 19); Turtle Bay Palmer, O'ahu (May 20); Ka'anapali North, Maui (May 21); and Waikoloa Beach, Big Island (May 23).

The 2005 U.S. Open Championship is June 16 to 19 at Pinehurst Resort & Country Club in North Carolina.

Entries for the U.S. Open Championship must be received by the U.S. Golf Association by April 27. The cost is $125. Entrants must have a handicap index not exceeding 1.4. They must select one of approximately 100 local qualifying sites and one of the 12 sectional qualifying sites.

Approximately 90 spots will be awarded to fill the championship field of 156 players.

On May 16, Ko Olina will also be the site of Hawai'i's lone local qualifier for the U.S. Women's Open Championship, which is June 23 to 26 at Cherry Hills Country Club in Colorado.

Entries for the U.S. Women's Open Championship must be received by the USGA by May 4. The cost is $125. Entrants must have a Handicap Index not exceeding 4.4 and must select one of approximately 15 local qualifying sites and one of the seven sectional qualifiers.

Approximately 90 total spots will be awarded to fill the championship field of 150 players.
