Pearl City fire kills two pets

A home at 1978 Ho'okumu Place in Pearl City was damaged by a fire that was reported about 7 a.m. today.

Honolulu Fire Capt. Emmit Kane said approximately 60 percent of the three-bedroom single story home was damaged by the two-alarm fire which was brought under control within 10 minutes after firefighters arrived.

Kane said no one was home when the fire broke out and there were no injuries to firefighters, although two cats were found dead.

No damage estimate was immediately available nor had the cause of the fire been determined.



Makaha woman accused of burglary

A 30-year-old Makaha woman was arrested yesterday after witnesses reported seeing her taking items from a vacant apartment on 'Iolani Avenue in lower Mo'ili'ili

Police said a witness who lives in a nearby apartment confronted the woman after seeing her leave the vacant apartment and watched as the woman tried to leave the area in a pickup truck.

Other neighbors, who reported seeing the woman take things from the apartment at about 4 p.m., managed to detain her until police arrived. Police reported finding numerous items taken from the apartment in the in the cab and bed of the woman's truck.

She was arrested on suspicion of first-degree burglary.



Assault alleged in Wai'anae

A 15-year-old Wai'anae boy was arrested yesterday for suspicion of first-degree burglary and fourth-degree sexual assault.

An 18-year-old woman told police the boy entered her Wai'anae home about 5:30 a.m. and sexually assaulted her.

The boy ran from the house after the assault, but was found nearby by police and identified by the victim during a "field show-up," police said.



Personal check stolen

A 33-year-old woman was arrested about 9 a.m. yesterday at a Kane'ohe bank after she allegedly tried to cash a check that had been stolen from a 60-year-old woman and her husband.

Police said the suspect made the check out to herself for $550 dollars. The checking account owners told police they had no idea how the woman managed to get one of their checks.

A second-degree forgery charge is pending against the woman.



Japanese man dies on golf course

A 63-year-old visitor from Japan was fatally injured yesterday while riding a cart at a Kahuku golf course.

Police said the man was golfing with his grandson when the cart crashed and the man struck his head on a paved path.

The man was taken to Castle Medical Center where he was declared dead.
