Hawai'i's Daniel 25th in Empire State Building run

Keith Daniel, a firefighter from the Makiki station, finished 25th in the Bank of America Empire State Building Run-Up in New York City Tuesday.

Daniel, 37, of Waialua, finished the race up 1,576 steps (86 flights) to the building's observation deck in 13 minutes, 47 seconds, according to results from the New York Road Runners Club Web site.

Rudolf Reitberger, 33, of Austria won the event in 10:24.

A total of 137 finished the invitational race.

Daniel qualified for the event with his first-place finish in last year's First Hawaiian Bank YesClimb, which was 30 stories and 654 steps.



Korff named firector at large for USTA

John Korff, who last April staged the Honolulu Triathlon, Hawai'i's first Olympic event, has been named director at large for the U.S. Tennis Association.

Korff, who owns a sports and special events marketing company based in New York City and Honolulu, will serve a two-year term.

He founded and then organized the A&P Tennis Classic in Mahwah, N.J., for 25 years.
