Author, teacher to present lectures

Dr. Heather Murray Elkins, associate professor of worship and liturgical studies of Drew Theological School at Drew University in Madison, N.J., and widely known United Methodist lecturer, will present three lectures Feb. 18-20 as part of the 26th annual Britt Lecture Series.
A published author and poet, Elkins has served as a teacher in the first independent bilingual Navajo school, Rough Rock, in Arizona; a religious arts coordinator for Duke University in Durham, N.C.; a rural church pastor; a truck- stop chaplain; a university chaplain; and an academic dean.
The free lectures at First United Methodist Church, 1020 S. Beretania St., will focus on sacramental life in the 21st century. They will begin at 7 p.m. with devotionals. The hourlong lectures take place at 7:30 p.m., and refreshments and discussion will follow.

St. Michael Center in Hawai'i is bringing a touring exhibition of relics, including what are purported to be pieces of the cross, the crown of thorns and the column where Jesus was scourged, as well as a picture of the Shroud of Turin and replicas of nails believed to have been used to crucify Christ. The tour has been organized by the Apostolate for Holy Relics, a Los Angeles-based nonprofit.
