KAPOLEI A rainy afternoon that sent O'ahu Interscholastic Association softball teams scrambling around the island to find various dry sites for their playoff games still resulted in only one being completed.
Eugene Tanner The Honolulu Advertiser Mililani stunned previously unbeaten Kailua, 7-3, in a 10-inning semifinal at Kapolei. The Trojans (12-2) will play the winner of this morning's Kapolei-Pearl City game for the championship at 7:30 p.m. at Central O'ahu Regional Park.
That second semifinal was suspended by rain yesterday at Pearl City with Kapolei batting with two outs in the top of the second inning, leading 5-0. The game will be resumed at that point at 10 a.m. at Kapolei.
Also at 10 a.m. today, Kalaheo (14-1) will play Waipahu (12-3) for the White (Division II) Conference championship, and Division I state tournament berths will be on the line when Castle (6-8) plays Moanalua (7-5) and Kahuku (7-6) plays Kaimuki (6-8). All three games are scheduled to be played at CORP, as were all of yesterday's.
But CORP's fields were deemed unplayable by midday, and the teams were sent to various school sites. The only place that stayed dry was Kapolei, where Kailua senior Courtney Kessell and Mililani freshman Makani Duhaylonsod were locked in a scoreless pitchers' duel for eight innings.
Except for Mililani-Kailua game, all of yesterday's scheduled games were postponed or suspended

7:30 p.m.Championship, Mililani vs. Pearl City-Kapolei winner The Surfriders managed to get a run back in the bottom half on a bases-loaded groundout, but reliever Dana Lee got the final out on a popup to end it.
"I told our girls before the game that if we just stay close, we'd have a chance," Mililani coach Mike Okimoto said. "But I (also) said if we don't stay close, this team will run away with it because they're that good."
Duhaylonsod, a right-hander, was making only her fourth start of the season. She struck out only one in 8° innings, but also walked only one.
"She's not too fancy, but she did a good job and gave us eight good innings," Okimoto said. "I wanted to give her an opportunity and see what she could do in a big game. Plus, if I put Dana (the No. 1 starter) at first base, it gives us a better defense."
That defense came up with a clutch play in the ninth, when a relay throw from center fielder Samantha Bolosan to Lee to catcher Skye Virtudes got the tying run at the plate to end the inning.
Defensive problems cost Kailua (13-1) in the final two innings, as the Surfriders twice failed to cover first base on bunts and an error allowed another runner to reach first.
"We had mental errors," Kailua coach Bernard Victor said. "That hurt us."
The Trojans, who failed to win at least a share of the OIA West title for the first time in seven seasons, have won five of the past eight OIA championships.

But it was a biggie.
Pearl City's Corrie Nishikida delivers a pitch against Kapolei. The game was suspended in the second inning by rain and will resume today.
Mililani finally broke through with two runs in the top of the ninth inning, only to see the Surfriders tie it in the bottom half. Ciera Senas then broke it open in the 10th with a three-run double and Duhaylonsod added a two-run single to put the Trojans up, 7-2.
