Elizabeth Ann "Betsy" Strance has been endorsed by the state Senate Judiciary and Hawaiian Affairs Committee to serve as a Big Island Circuit Court judge. Her nomination now goes to the Senate for a confirmation vote.

Strance is a partner in the firm, Strance and Nakoa, and has been a per diem judge since 1999 in the 3rd Circuit District and Family Courts. The Hawai'i State Bar Association rated Strance highly qualified for the 10-year appointment. She was nominated by Gov. Linda Lingle last month.

Several colleagues and friends told the committee Friday that Strance has the ideal temperament and experience for the Big Island bench. "I am touched and humbled by their support," Strance said.
