FITNESS PROFILE
From dawn to dance floor, he's pumped up

By Paula Rath
Advertiser Staff Writer

Guy Brown is one of those disciplined types who sets a schedule and sticks to it, no matter what. He gets up at 4 a.m. every day, arrives at his office at Hawaiian Waters Adventure Park at 5 a.m., meditates and prays for 20 minutes, reads The Honolulu Advertiser for 20 minutes, performs mental exercises on his computer for 20 minutes (he likes to roam the site www.brainbusters.com), pumps iron for 20 minutes, grabs a snack and starts his workday at 6:30 a.m.

Guy Brown takes a daily walk around his neighborhood in Koko Head, usually after dinner.

He was following this regimen seven days a week until just five weeks ago, when he decided he needed to spend more time with his wife, DiAnn Verwoest Brown. Now he's down to six days a week.

Guy and DiAnn share a passion for fitness. They take a long walk every evening after dinner and go out ballroom dancing whenever possible.

When and why I started working out: "In 1953, because I wanted to develop a good physique. I was a skinny little kid and when I saw bodybuilders, I wanted to look like them. It took many years for me to bulk up, but once I did, I was able to keep it up with daily weight training."

My good foods/bad foods: "I eat everything that tastes good and nothing that tastes bad."

My biggest motivator: "At this point in my life, staying fit and healthy."

What saves my sanity: "Staying disciplined and focused."

Advice for those in the same boat: "Relax and spend more time with your family and loved ones. Find a way to involve them in your fitness regimen. Take a walk after dinner, go ballroom dancing."
