Advertiser Staff

Police were looking for a 20-year-old man this morning who they believe shot out two tires on a car at Waimanalo Beach Park last night.

A 40-year-old man told police he was sitting in his car with two women friends about 10:45 p.m. when two men approached the car. He said one of the men saw a TV on the rear seat of the car and asked to buy it.

But as negotiations faltered, the driver began to pull out of the parking lot and the man who asked about buying the TV ran around to the side of the car and fired three shots, causing the left front and left rear tires to go flat, police said.

The gunman ran away from the park before police arrived but the driver of the disabled car gave police the shooter's name.

The case was initially classified as an attempted murder but was later changed to criminal property damage.

The gunman will also likely be charged with failure to keep a firearm in a proper place and being a felon in possession of a firearm, police said.

A 17-year-old Lahaina boy was critically injured in a traffic accident on Maui yesterday evening.

Maui police traffic investigators said Christopher Boskoff ran a red light at 6:08 p.m. while riding a moped south on Honoapi'ilani Highway at the Leialii Parkway intersection and ran into the passenger side of a Ford F-150 truck whose driver was making a left turn in front of the moped. The truck driver, a 48-year-old Lahaina man, and his two female passengers were not injured. Boskoff was taken to the Maui Memorial Medical Center.

Investigators had not determined if speed, drugs or alcohol played a part in the crash.
