Advertiser Staff

Tom Selman

Tom Selman, a creative and skilled behind-the-scenes guy who formerly served as chef de cuisine at David Paul's Lahaina Grill and then as corporate chef for the Sansei/Vino group, has opened Main Street Bistro in Wailuku, Maui, serving "refined comfort food" such as onion rings with house-made smoky ketchup, blackened chicken and shrimp pasta salad, a "wet" roast beef sandwich and his signature mac and cheese. The Bistro is open for lunch only but will add a pau hana pupu menu and wine list by summer.

Hours are 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. weekdays, and the address is 2051 Main St., Wailuku, in the spot formerly occupied by Who's the Boss Bistro and Cafe 'O Lei. Phone (808) 244-6816.

Event to benefit Kawaiaha'o Church Building Fund

A poi luncheon — featuring beef stew, veggie stew, tripe stew, poke, rice, salads, desserts and, of course, poi — will benefit the Kawaiaha'o Church Building Fund, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 5 in Likeke Hall on the church campus.

Proceeds will help pay for a project to, among other things, enhance the office and meeting areas.

Tickets are $15 adult (15 or older); $5 children 9 to 14 (kids 8 and younger eat free). Order tickets by calling 532-1262 or purchase them at the Kawaiaha'o Book Shop. Tickets are for one of two seatings, 11:30 a.m. or 1:30 p.m., or for takeout. Or mail order: Building Fund-raiser, 957 Punchbowl St. Honolulu, HI 96813. Make checks payable to the church, specify number of adult and child tickets and seating time or takeout, and include return address.
