Chaminade rolls to 92-77 hoops win

Chris Reaves led five Chaminade players in double figures with 21 points as the Silverswords beat Western New Mexico, 92-77, in a Pacific West Conference basketball game at Silver City, N.M., yesterday.

Corey Campbell added 14 points, Dustin Mittelsteadt and Zack Whiting 13 each, Chris Nelson 11 and Scott Metcalf 10 for Chaminade.

Mittelsteadt also had a game-high 18 rebounds.

The Silverswords improved to 14-8 overall, 7-4 in the PacWest. Western New Mexico fell to 6-14 and 1-8.



More division II

No. 13 Hawai'i-Hilo falls at Billings, 105-95

Cameron Munoz and Carlin Hughes each scored 27 points to lead Montana State-Billings to a 105-95 PacWest basketball victory over Hawai'i-Hilo at Billings, Mont., yesterday.

Montana State-Billings hit 16 of 37 3-pointers and went to the free-throw line 52 times, making 41.

Osadonor Esene led Hawai'i-Hilo with 23 points.

The Vulcans are 20-3 overall and 8-3 in the PacWest, while Montana State-Billings is 13-6 and 5-4. In the NABC/Division II national poll released yesterday, the Vulcans moved to No. 13 and were ranked first in the West Region.



Volleyball

University of Hawai'i stays No. 3 in poll

The University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team remained No. 3 in the USA Today/CSTV Top 15 Division I-II Men's Coaches Poll released yesterday. The Warriors received 208 points.

UCLA was a unanimous No. 1, followed by Pepperdine in the second spot.
