Top linebacker commits to UH

By Stephen Tsai
Advertiser Staff Writer

Adam Leonard, a highly regarded linebacker from Seattle, told The Advertiser he has accepted a football scholarship from the University of Hawai'i.

Leonard, who is completing a recruiting visit to Hawai'i, said, "This is where I'm going to spend the next four years of my life."

Leonard, who is 6 feet 2 and 225 pounds, was the Metro Sound League's Defensive Player of the Year as a sophomore and junior.

He drew interest from Miami, UCLA, Oregon and Washington State before suffering a knee injury early in his senior season. But Leonard, who has met the academic requirements to play as an NCAA freshman, said he should be healthy enough to compete in training camp in August.

UCLA and Duke offered to reserve a scholarship for Leonard if he delayed enrolling until January 2006.

Leonard said UH offered a scholarship for the coming season, and he accepted it this morning.
