BUSINESS BRIEFS
Hawaiian Air gets union pact

Advertiser Staff

Hawaiian Airlines said yesterday it has reached an agreement on a three-year contract with the mechanics unit of the International Association of Machinists District Lodge 142, making it the fifth out of six unions to have negotiated new agreements with Hawaiian.

The contract covers 376 members who are aircraft inspectors, mechanics, line servicemen and cleaners at Hawaiian. Union members are to vote on the pact next week.

Hawaiian officials say the airline cannot emerge from bankruptcy protection without new contracts for all unions. The flight attendants' union has yet to tally its members' votes, already cast, on a tentative agreement; the pilots have yet to reach an agreement.
