Catching the psy-fi bug

Tim Robbins stars as the empathy guy in "Code 46."

United Artists

"Code 46" never made it to Hawai'i movie theaters last August (or many screens on the Mainland, for that matter). But fans of the cold, ominous vibes of "Blade Runner" or "Gattaca" might want to catch this craftily photographed and designed science-fiction fantasy.

Tim Robbins stars as an insurance-fraud investigator infected with an empathy virus that allows him to know what people are thinking. Samantha Morton plays a corporate counterfeiter he catches smuggling fake government documents required for travel. They fall in love. Surprises ensue. At 1 p.m., 7:30 p.m. today at the Doris Duke Theatre. More information is at 532-8768.

FINAL WORD

Will Ferrell, in Entertainment Weekly, on being paired with Nicole Kidman for the summer movie based on the '70s sitcom "Bewitched":

"Nicole described it as Hepburn and Tracy. That's the classy version. The nonclassy version is, I don't know, Britney Spears and Daniel Day-Lewis? With me being Britney in drag."
