Waimea, the Kaua'i Interscholastic Federation champion, becomes the first KIF team to advance to the semifinals, handing top-seeded Mililani (10-1-2) its first loss since February 2001, a string of 61 matches (58-0-3).

"Kaua'i has three teams," said junior forward Chad Thompson, who scored two goals. "For the chance that one would advance to the semifinals ... this is the biggest win for Waimea. And Kaua'i."

The Menehune (7-0-2), in their first state tournament since 1999, advance to play the Interscholastic League of Honolulu's Kamehameha-O'ahu (12-3-1) tonight at 6. Iolani (11-0-4), the ILH champ, plays Kealakehe of the Big Island Interscholastic Federation in the other semifinal at 8 p.m.

"I think they were a little shocked we could play at that level," Waimea coach Mark Kennett said.

Thompson scored his first goal in the 28th minute on a header off another header by Kenny Estes, who flicked the ball over his head off a throw-in. Thompson received the ball on the far end of the 6-yard box and put it over the Mililani goalkeeper.

He scored his second in the 47th after he was taken down in the penalty box and was awarded a penalty kick. Mililani goalkeeper Chris Burt blocked the penalty kick, but Thompson put back the rebound.

"I knew if I got past them the only thing they could do was foul me," said the speedy Thompson, who gave the Trojans problems all match long.

Mililani's Cheyne Eugenio, who moved up to forward from his normal defensive role after the Trojans fell behind, scored in the 52nd minute after chasing down a long pass and shooting from about 10 yards out to bring the Trojans to 2-1.

But 1 1/2 minutes later, Waimea's Joshua Cabral answered on a shot over Burt's head.

"I was sandwiched between two defenders and I saw the keeper come out and shot it over his head," Cabral said. "Luckily it went in."

Mililani's Todd Sorbin scored in the 64th minute off a throw-in.

"Like I said before, I had a fear of the neighbor island teams," Mililani co-head coach Steve McGehee said. "I just think we got outplayed today. Very rarely does it happen, but once in a while you get a reality check."

Iolani 3, Honoka'a 0: Senior midfielder Kirtus Adams scored a goal and set up another to lead the Raiders.

He scored in the 43rd minute after receiving a square pass along the top of the 18-yard box from Riley Bruhn, juking a defender, and sending a low shot into the left corner of the net.

Iolani senior midfielder Ryan Harada scored in the 50th minute after putting back a rebound off of Adams' blocked shot. Adams beat three defenders on the dribble, shot the ball and the rebound went straight to Harada, who shot the ball into the open net.

"I saw they were watching the pass, so I saw the dribble was open," Adams said. "So I took it to the hole."

Iolani junior midfielder Lee Anderson curled a 25-yard direct kick into the upper right corner of the goal in the 55th minute for the final score of the game.

Kamehameha 2, Hawai'i Prep 1 (OT): Kamehameha senior Dustin Engle scored with just over two minutes remaining in sudden victory overtime to lift the Warriors into the semifinals for the fourth straight year.

Engle scored after freshman midfielder Zane Dydasco's corner kick was headed out by a Hawai'i Prep defender. Engle chest trapped the ball and rocketed a 12-yard volley into the upper right side of the net.

"I just fired it as hard as I could," Engle said.

Hawai'i Prep (16-1) scored first in regulation, on a goal by senior forward Giyup Han in the seventh minute.

Kamehameha sophomore midfielder Kekoa Osorio tied it in the 26th minute on a header off a corner kick by sophomore midfielder Ikaika Pidot, who sent the ball to the far post.

Kamehameha had a chance to win in regulation, after junior Logan Sauer was fouled in the penalty box, but his penalty kick went high.

Kealakehe 2, King Kekaulike 0: Senior forward Hookela Sanborn scored after receiving a through pass from senior forward Joey Giubardo in the 11th minute, after Giubardo intercepted a King Kekaulike pass and slotted a ball up the middle of the field.

Freshman midfielder Lanakila Ynigues scored in the 57th minute on a header, after his teammate headed the ball to him off a free kick.

Consolation

Kaiser 2, Kapolei 1 (PKs): Kaiser goalkeeper Keola Kamakana made four saves, including stopping Kapolei's ninth shooter, in the penalty-kicks portion of the match, as Kaiser outscored Kapolei, 5-4, in extra kicks.

Kaiser's Jacob Curtis scored in the 21st minute and Kapolei's Daryl Mills scored on a penalty kick in the 46th minute.
