Interfaith lecture to focus on Islam

Abdul-Karim Khan, an associate professor at Leeward Community College, will discuss "Islam and the Meaning of Peace" at the next Fujitani Interfaith Lecture program, 4 p.m. Feb. 27 at the Mystical Rose Oratory at Chaminade University.
Interfaith respondents will be the Rev. Sam Cox, e-mail coordinator of the Open Table, who serves with Kailua United Methodist Church; the Rev. Hal Weidner of Holy Trinity Catholic Church; and Ernestine Enomoto of Honolulu Mindfulness Community.

As part of the Season for Peace and Nonviolence, the Church of the Crossroads will host "In Search of Spirit Film Series." Films begin at 7 p.m.; the cost is $5; refreshments and discussion follow.

Georgiana Cooke will discuss Tibetan Buddhism and Lama Rinchen Wangyel of Bhutan will discuss Buddhism as part of the Futaba Lecture series.
The lecture will be from 8:30 a.m. to noon today at Honpa Hongwanji Mission, 1727 Pali Highway.
George Tanabe, a religion professor at the University of Hawai'iiManoa, will be the moderator.

Ronald Williams, pastor of Back to the Foundation Church in Utah, who also holds the title of "natural bodybuilder of the decade," will speak at 10 a.m. tomorrow at the New Life Church, 1190 Nu'uanu Ave.
Williams won the title Mr. Natural Universe in 1988, 1989 and 1991, and became a pastor in 1992.
At the service, he'll discuss "Seven Steps to Building a Physical and Spiritual Body."

Ewa Community Church will host a Passover presentation with Alan Shore at 9 a.m. March 13 at the church, 91-1258 Renton Road.
As part of the presentation, the symbolic meanings of the various items of the Passover Seder will be explained, and there will be a chance to discuss the common heritage Jewish and Christian faiths share.
A Passover meal will be served at 6:30 p.m. March 23.
