BYUH tops HPU in PacWest basketball

Austin Smylie scored 24 points to lead five Seasiders in double-figures as Brigham Young-Hawai'i beat Hawai'i Pacific, 89-73, last night at Cannon Activities Center.

Michael Stowell added 16 points, Thomas Watkins and Jason Solis each had 14, and Jake Chrisman 11 for the Seasiders, who improved to 12-7 overall and 7-3 in the Pacific West Conference.

Dante Sykes scored 19 points to lead the Sea Warriors (8-12, 2-8).



FOOTBALL

Pro Bowl ceremony

The Kamehameha and Campbell football teams and Lahainaluna football coach Bobby Watson will be honored in a Pro Bowl pregame ceremony tomorrow at Aloha Stadium.

Kickoff is 2:30 p.m.

Watson, who led the Lunas to the Maui Interscholastic League title and a state semifinal, will be honored as the NFL Pro Bowl Hawai'i High School Coach of the Year.

Kamehameha and Campbell will be honored for winning the state Division I and Division II titles, respectively.



SOFTBALL

UH games canceled

The University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine games against Utah and Wichita State were canceled because of rain yesterday in Las Vegas.

The games were part of the Desert Classic tournament.

UH will play Oklahoma State and BYU today.
