A skydiver was critically injured this morning during a hard landing at Dillingham Airfield, authorities said.

The unidentified skydiver, a Florida man who winters in Hawai'i, was flown by helicopter to The Queen's Medical Center in "extremely critical condition," said Donnie Gates, assistant chief for the city's Emergency Medical Services.

The accident occured about 11:40 a.m. Witnesses said the skydiver got into trouble while making a turn as he neared the ground.

The skydiver was thought to be in his 50s. His identity was not available.

It is the second skydiving accident in eight days. Jeremy Barrett, a 24-year-old Navy petty officer, was killed Feb. 6 when he experienced a problem with his main parachute.
