Last Hawai'i-based Marine laid to rest

Advertiser Staff

Gov. Linda Lingle today ordered flags at state and county buildings to be returned to full-staff beginning tomorrow, a news release said.

Last month, Lingle ordered state flags to be lowered to half-staff in honor of the 26 Hawai'i-based Marines and one sailor who were killed in a helicopter accident in Iraq on Jan. 26, as well as all the military men and women with Hawai'i ties who have lost their lives in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.

The last of the 27 Hawai'i-based Marines and soldier, Navy Petty Officer John D. House, was laid to rest today in his hometown in Simi Valley, Calif., the release said.
