SHOWBIZ
Society of Seven wedding bells and musical impressions

By Wayne Harada
Advertiser Entertainment Writer

ABOUT PEOPLE: Roy Guerzo, a member of the Society of Seven (the original group, not the Las Vegas edition ensconced at the Outrigger Waikiki hotel), has a shiny new acquisition on his third finger, left hand. "I got married in Las Vegas about two weeks ago," said Guerzo, whose bride is the former Theresa Corro, whom he met while the SOS has been residing and working at Bally's in the gambling capital. Guerzo and SOS leader Tony Ruivivar were in town last week for a round of promotional appearances to introduce the centerpiece of the act, singer Lani Misalucha, who has powerful pipes and should bring out the hurrahs when the SOS takes the stage Friday, Saturday and Sunday (a 7:30 p.m. Sunday show just added) at the Hawai'i Theatre. Besides showing off her own voice, she does impressions of everyone from Britney Spears to Shania Twain, from Celine Dion to Tina Turner. Or, as Guerzo mentioned, "I don't have to do Tina (in drag) anymore. Lani does it better." ...

'LOST' AND FOUND: Actress Swoosie Kurtz, perhaps a bigger name on Broadway ("Frozen," "Fifth of July," "House of Blue Leaves") than on TV or film, took a break from Hawai'i's most famous castaways to fill up on lamb chops and steamed asparagus during a recent visit to Morton's, The Steakhouse Honolulu. Kurtz, in town filming an episode of ABC's "Lost," took a piece of cheesecake to go. Wonder if she shared it with the cast of survivors. ...

That was KSSK's main conference room debuting in "Lost"Êlast Wednesday in the segment featuring Charlie (Dominic Monaghan) trying to be a copier salesman and winding up sick. It was shot on a Saturday, and the site was negotiated by Jamie Hartnett, KSSK's director of promotions. "When I heard they were looking for a copier, we offered ours," said Hartnett. "But the set director quickly said they'd be bringing one in, since they knew Monaghan's character would be getting sick on it." To simulate an Aussie conference room, Hawaiian artwork was removed from the KSSK walls. ...

RESTAURANT NOTES: Another one bites the dust — on the Big Island. Sad to learn that Sam Choy's original restaurant in Kailua-Kona, operated by his sister Claire Wai Sun Choy the past few years, has closed for good. Those breakfasts and dinners in the industrial district near the Keahole Airport were legendary. ...

NASA astronaut Michael Fincke, on the Big Island for the annual Ellison Onizuka Science Day event sponsored by American Savings Bank, stopped off in Honolulu before heading home. After six months in space, L'Uraku on Kapi'olani Boulevard was his choice for dining here. ...

Mauians are still a buzz about the recent Hula Bowl shindig hosted by Ruth's Chris Steak House in Wailea. Among the attendees: Dick Schaller, development director of the Hula Bowl; Lavel Edwards, former BYU coach; George Perless, formerly with Michigan State and now a Hula Bowl selection committee member; Jay Locey, Portland coach; Mickey Matthews, James Madison coach; Joe Novak, Northern Illinois coach; and Chris Hatcher, Valdasta State coach. ...

Patsy Narimatsu, director of sales for the Radisson Waikiki Prince Kuhio hotel, did a double take when she trekked into the Trellises restaurant and saw longtime waiter Jose E. Racasa bald. Turns out he was a superluminary — a bald ghost — in the Hawaii Opera Theatre's "The Flying Dutchman." ...

Restaurateur Ed Wary (Dixie Grill, Auntie Pasto's) had a joyous family-time California visit with wife Tina and daughter Maddy (marking her fifth birthday). The family dined at Compadres Old Adobe in Palo Alto, where Scott Enos is g.m. On the flight out, they encountered radio personality Bobby Curran and later took in a University of Hawai'i basketball game courtesy of Curran (who is the "voice" of the Rainbows). ...

SIGHT'EMS: Jerry Buss, owner of the L.A. Lakers, and Rudy Tomjanovich, former coach, watched their team play on TV at the Eastside Grill. ...

ITEMIZATIONS: "The Gregg Hammer Show," featuring the Hot 93.9 personality, will be held Feb. 25 at Dave & Buster's Showroom. Doors open at 6 p.m., with the show at 7:30 p.m., preceded by dinner service from 7 p.m. Tickets: $35. Call 589-2215. ...

Garry Moore has launched "A Tribute to Sammy and Friends" — Sammy being Sammy Davis Jr. — at 8:30 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays at the Blue Hawai'i Showroom at the Waikiki Beachcomber Hotel. ...
