Hawai'i splits with Arizona State

Denise Dahlberg hit a grand slam to help the University of Hawai'i softball team earn a split with Arizona State yesterday at Tempe, Ariz.
Dahlberg's blast helped the Rainbow Wahine win the opener, 8-6.
In the second game, Katie Burkhart pitched a two-hitter with 13 strikeouts and fellow freshman Mindy Cowles homered twice to spark the Sun Devils to a 2-0 victory.
Hawai'i is 5-4, Arizona State 6-1.
The Rainbow Wahine bunched six hits to score five runs in the third inning for a 5-0 lead in the opener. Four consecutive singles brought in the first run. After Ashley Werschky struck out the next batter, Dahlberg slammed a shot over the left-field fence.
UH added two unearned runs in the fifth one scoring on an error, the other on Jennifer Hackett's single to center to make it 7-0.
Tyleen Tausaga's RBI double gave UH an 8-1 lead in the sixth before the Sun Devils mounted a rally, scoring four runs in the bottom of the sixth and one in the seventh.
BYU-Hawai'i sweeps Chaminade
Katie Pagen pitched a shutout as Brigham Young-Hawai'i beat Chaminade, 8-0, in the second game of a doubleheader Tuesday at Mililani.
Brooke Hilton homered to help BYUH win the opener, 13-12.
BYUH is 2-0, Chaminade 0-4.
