BUSINESS BRIEFS
Machinists OK Hawaiian pact

Advertiser Staff

Members of the International Association of Machinists District Lodge 142 have ratified a new, three-year contract with Hawaiian Airlines to cover 376 aircraft inspectors, mechanics, line servicemen and cleaners.

The same union voted down a different agreement on Jan. 20. Four of Hawaiian's six labor unions have now ratified three-year contracts, leaving the flight attendants and pilots without tentative agreements.

Hawaiian's bankruptcy trustee, Josh Gotbaum, has said that the company needs new agreements in place with all of Hawaiian's unions before it can emerge from federal bankruptcy protection.

4th union ratifies Aloha contract

The transport union at Aloha Airlines has ratified a new 52-month contract, making it the fourth of five unions to accept labor agreements with the carrier, the airline said yesterday.

The airline also said it plans to file a motion today in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Hawai'i seeking interim financial relief from its mechanics' current labor agreement. Aloha is still in negotiations with its 250 mechanics and inspectors.
