School board will set dress code for teachers

The state Board of Education voted unanimously last night to create a dress code for teachers and other public-school employees.
Specific guidelines have yet to be drafted, but the board agreed that "the dress, grooming, and the personal hygiene of each employee" should be "appropriate to the work situation."
The goal is for school employees to promote a positive work environment and limit distractions, as well as present a professional and identifiable appearance, according to the board.
Schools superintendent Pat Hamamoto said the policy would be flexible and allow for comfortable but appropriate dress in especially hot school locations.
