Rainbow Wahine stop Northern Iowa in softball, 3-1

Denise Dahlberg went 2 for 3 and scored a run, and Ashley Ruff hit a solo home run to lead the University of Hawai'i softball team to a 3-1 victory over Northern Iowa on the first day of the Worth Wildcat Invitational at Tucson, Ariz.
Hawai'i is 6-4, Northern Iowa 3-3. The Rainbow Wahine's second game yesterday was postponed by thundershowers and hail. Other teams in the tournament are No. 1-ranked Arizona and Marshall. The tournament is scheduled to continue today and tomorrow.
Melissa Coogan allowed five hits, struck out three and walked none for the complete-game win.
Williams scores a 10 at Banzai Pipeline
Ross Williams of Hale'iwa scored a perfect 10 to highlight the third round of the Monster Energy Pro yesterday.
The third round was completed in 4- to 6-foot waves at the Banzai Pipeline.
Williams rode through several long barrels, and finished with a two-wave score of 18.75.
Several other Hawai'i surfers received high scores, including Kamalei Alexander (17.75), Kahea Hart (16.50) and Kalani Chapman (15.25).
The top seeds in the contest, including defending champion Tom Dosland, had byes yesterday.

Nebraska sweeps doubleheader with Hilo
Curtis Ledbetter scored on an error following a bunt by Andy Gerch to give Nebraska a 2-1 victory over Hawai'i-Hilo in the first game of a doubleheader sweep at Wong Stadium in Hilo.
In the second game, Brandon Buckman was 3 for 5 with two RBIs to lead the Cornhuskers to a 5-1 victory.
Ledbetter doubled down the left field line, went to third on a single by Daniel Bruce, and scored when Gerch reached first on a sacrifice bunt attempt.
Hawai'i Pacific scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to defeat Sonoma State, 5-4, in the first game of a doubleheders yesterday at Ke'ehi Lagoon Field.
Sonoma State (6-5) won the second game, 2-1. HPU is 7-4.
In the first game, Grandon Costa had three hits and three RBIs for HPU. In the second game, Jay Baptista hit a homer for HPU in the seventh inning.
Colton Daines had three hits in the first game for Sonoma State.
