Rev. Frederick Sapp, 68

The Rev. Frederick John Sapp, father of the 1992 Miss America and Miss Hawai'i Carolyn Sapp, died Thursday at his home on the Big Island.

Sapp, 68, was born in Ambridge, Pa., on Feb. 15, 1937.

Sapp was a Lutheran minister who served as associate pastor at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in West Sacramento, Calif.; administrator and chaplain at the Laniolo Good Samaritan Center in Ho-nolulu, and pastor of the Lutheran Church of the Holy Trinity in Kailua, Kona.

Sapp helped build the Kona church, where he served until his retirement.

He also helped start Meals on Wheels in Honolulu and was active on the Big Island.

Sapp is survived by his wife, Carmen Sapp of Kalaoa; daughters, Carolyn and Natalie Shiotsuka; son, Samuel; mother, Katherine Sapp of Baden, Pa.; and sister, Susan Wrotny.

Visitation will be from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. today at the Lutheran Church at 77-165 Lako St. in Kailua, Kona. Aloha or casual attire. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the church.
