Advertiser Staff

The Brigham Young-Hawai'i women's tennis team defeated host Hawai'i-Hilo, 8-1, yesterday for its 105th consecutive victory, a day after breaking its own NCAA Division II consecutive dual match record.

In Friday's record-breaking match, BYUH defeated Hilo, 8-1, getting victories from Jing Jing Liu, Adrienn Hegedus, Tetyana Bula, Petra Teller and Gurianna Korinihona. The Seasiders also swept the three doubles matches.

The five BYUH singles winners repeated in yesterday's matches and the Seasiders again swept the doubles.

BYUH began NCAA II play in 1998 and won its first 103 matches before losing to Lynn University (Fla.) in the 2001 national championship match. The Seasiders have been undefeated since, winning the past three NCAA titles and five of the last six.

Miami's men's team holds the all-time NCAA record for consecutive dual-match wins with 137 from 1957 to 1964.

The BYUH men's team yesterday swept two matches from the Vulcans, 5-2 and 7-2. In an upset in the first match, Hilo's Jeremy Moitry defeated Dorian Porada of BYUH, 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (1), in No. 1 singles.
