• Katherine Louie has been promoted to Hawai'i sales manager for Continental Airlines. She has been with Continental for 25 years, beginning as a reservation agent in Los Angeles and most recently as Hawai'i sales service manager. Her new position puts her in charge of managing relationships and revenue with all corporate travel agency accounts for the Hawai'i Region.

• Itaat Husain has joined the investment firm of Hawaii Wealth Management. He comes from the Honolulu office of Smith Barney and brings with him more than seven years of investment experience as a financial adviser.

• Wayne Hikida has been appointed vice president of Island Insurance Co., the state's largest locally owned and managed property and casualty insurance carrier. Hikida will serve as an intermediary between the agency and the independent insurance agents, many of whom he has established relationships with.

• Brock Nelson, a national leader in hospital patient safety, has been elected to the board of directors of Hoana Medical Inc. Hoana addresses the ever-more-pressing issue of in-hospital patient safety. Its state-of-the-art hospital beds sport wireless sensing surfaces that continuously track patient vital signs and warn nurses when patients are in distress.

• Brett Phillips has been hired as construction manager of The Shidler Group, a real-estate investment firm. He will be responsible for managing all capital and tenant construction projects. Previously, he was vice president of estimating and business development at Allied Builders System.

• Ken Melrose, executive vice president of Maryl Group, has been named chairman of the board of the Big Island-based Hawaii Leeward Planning Conference. Other HLPC officers and board members for 2005-2006 include: Les Goya of Queen Emma Foundation, Roger Harris of Keauhou Kona Construction Corp., John Ray of Parker Ranch Foundation Trust, Sachiko Murano of East-West Consulting Services, Tom Whittemore and Bob Acree of Kohala Ranch, Duane Kanuha of Security Kohala Corp., Don Goo of Wimberly Allison Tong & Goo and HLPC president Jacqui Hoover.

• Barry Taniguchi, president and CEO of Puna Plantation Hawaii Ltd., doing business as KTA Super Stores and Waikoloa Village Market, has been elected chairman of the Hawaii Employers Council Board of Governors for 2005. He brings a wealth of business and community leadership experience to his role as council chairman. Also elected to the council's executive committee were: Robert Cundiff, general manager, Weyerhauser Co.; Edward Van Lier Ribbink, senior vice president, CFP and treasurer, Hawaii Medical Service Association; Patricia Wong, vice president, Hawaiian Electric Industries Inc.; Dr. Robyn Yim, president and medical director, Blood Bank of Hawaii; and Peter Yukimura, president, KOA Trading Company Inc.

• The Counselors of Real Estate has announced the 2005 officers of the Hawaii Chapter. They are: Susan Todani, chairwoman; Jon YaMagu-

chi, vice chairman; Richard Stellmacher, secretary; Robert Hastings Jr., treasurer; James Hallstrom Jr., membership officer.

• Colette Whaley has been named assistant spa director at the Kohala Sports Club & Spa at Hilton Waikoloa Village. She will be responsible for all facets of spa operations and for providing guests with the highest quality of service and amenities.

• Doris Ohara has been promoted to vice president of human resources and administration at AIG Hawaii Insurance Co. Inc. She oversees the development of workplace policies, employee benefit programs and staff development.

• Bank of Hawaii has announced several promotions and hires:

James "Jack" Bulla has been promoted to president and chief executive officer of BISI and senior vice president of Bank of Hawaii. He will be responsible for overseeing the operations of BISI, which is a nonbanking subsidiary of Bank of Hawaii offering full service and discount brokerage services to the public.

Francine Taba has been promoted to senior vice president. She will continue her responsibilities as trust administration manager for Trust Operations, which provides operational and administrative support for the Trust & Private Banking Division and Institutional Sales & Services Division.

Kevin Kitazumi has been promoted to vice president and manager of Bank of Hawaii's Business Loan Approval and Portfolio Management group. He will continue to monitor and manage the division's loan portfolio. He will also oversee the bank's credit underwriting processes and systems.

Vincent Learned has rejoined Bank of Hawaii as vice president and portfolio manager for the bank's Fiduciary Portfolio Management Team of Private Client Services. His duties will include constructing investment portfolios, managing domestic equities and maintaining appropriate asset allocations.

Steven Nakahara has joined Bank of Hawaii as vice president and special assets officer. He will oversee commercial client relationships with identified credit weaknesses, by analyzing circumstances and working with each client to restore sound credit exposure.

AnnaLena Zanolini has been promoted to vice president and relationship manager for the company's Private Client Services Department on Maui. In her new role, she will be in charge of administering account portfolios of high-net-worth clients by assisting them in customizing plans to grow, preserve and transfer their wealth in a tax-advantaged manner.
