POLICE BEAT
Construction-site accident kills man

Advertiser Staff

A 50-year-old Wai'anae man died Sunday from injuries he suffered when a frontloader ran over his head and chest at a private construction site off Hakimo Road in Nanakuli.

Police believe the man, whom they identified as Eugene Wilkerson, was working on the frontloader's engine when its transmission engaged accidentally, causing the loader's wheels to move and fling Wilkerson to the ground.

Before he could get out of the way, one of the frontloader's tires, which measure approximately 5 feet in diameter, ran over Wilkerson's head and chest, police said.

He was flown to The Queen's Medical Center in critical condition and died there later from his injuries.
