HAWAI'I BRIEFS
County solicits solutions

Advertiser Staff

WAILUKU, Maui — "Solution boxes" are being placed at various county sites around Maui to enable citizens to offer advice about how to make the government more efficient.

The boxes are not meant to receive complaints, said Mayor Alan Arakawa.

"Complaints and suggestions we've got in spades," Arakawa said. "What we don't have is all the answers. We've got so many bright, concerned members of our community who have real, concrete ideas as to how to solve problems that may exist in county services, and we want them to contribute their creativity to real problem solving."

The boxes were built at no charge to the county by Pukalani resident Yasu Kono. They are at the County Service Center in the Maui Mall, the Upcountry Aquatics Center in Pukalani, the Kihei Aquatics Center, the Lahaina Civic Center and in the second-floor lobby of the Kalana O Maui building in Wailuku. They will be checked on a regular basis, and at the end of the year, recognition will be given to the best solutions.
