ISLAND LIFE SHORTS
Absorb mandala energy to energize the day

Advertiser Staff

Tibetan Buddhists believe that mandalas — sand-constructed geometric designs that symbolize the universe — emit positive energies into the environment and to people who view them. Taking days to create, mandalas are believed to affect purification and healing. Monks from the eastern Tibetan monastery of Dzindu will begin creating a sand mandala in the Honolulu Academy of Arts' Buddhist gallery today. Work on the mandala will continue during normal museum hours through March 6. The process begins with an opening ceremony at 10 a.m. Regular museum admission will be charged. Water washes out body, makes your skin glow

We all know that water is good for our insides. But it also benefits our outsides, especially our skin.

"The Beauty Workbook" by Cynthia Robins advocates drinking a minimum of eight glasses of water a day (about 8 ounces each), which some experts say can visibly improve your skin within two weeks. Water is both a hydrating and cleansing agent, forcing evaporation. Drink it in and wash toxins and waste products out, either through perspiration and evaporation through the pores, or through urination. The result: finer textured skin.

FINAL WORD

Actress Ashley Olsen | in her suit against the National Enquirer for a story that claimed she was involved in a drug scandal:

"Freedom of the press is a valuable right, but it is not a license for gossipy tabloids to tar and feather innocent celebrities and destroy their reputations and businesses for the rags' profits."
