Ex-Kamehameha athlete has lymphoma

All-Pro quarterback Michael Vick's autographed helmet, Chicago Bears center Olin Kreutz's Pro Bowl watch and Denver Broncos wide receiver Ashley Lelie's signed jersey are among the auction items up for bid at Sunday's "Fund-raiser for Kalani" at the Pipeline Cafe in Kaka'ako.

The event, which also includes live entertainment and heavy pupu, will help pay for the medical costs for Kalani Heffernan, who is suffering from lymphoma.

Heffernan, 20, is a former Kamehameha Schools volleyball player and the younger sister of Tommy Heffernan, the event's organizer and head strength coach for University of Hawai'i athletics.

Kalani Heffernan is undergoing chemotherapy. Later, she is scheduled for radiation treatment. Her medical coverage expires next month, when she turns 21.

The event runs from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., and admission is $10 per person.
