Surfing into history

Also, two events about the plays will take place at Kumu Kahua.

The first, at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and focusing on Eddie Aikau, will include discussion by:

Stuart Holmes Coleman, author of the book "Eddie Would Go: The Story of Eddie Aikau, Hawaiian Hero."

Waterman Tom Pohaku Stone, who will talk about the relationship between today's surf culture and traditional Hawaiian sports.

Kumu Kahua artistic director Harry Wong III, on the topic of bringing "Eddie Would Go" to the stage.

The second session, at 7:30 p.m. March 8, features:

Mark Lutwak, Honolulu Theatre for Youth's artistic director, who will talk about the initial stages of "Queen of Makaha."

Stone, on the topic of the values and achievements associated with surfing in traditional and contemporary Hawaiian culture.

Wong, on bringing "Queen of Makaha" to the stage.

A scene from the play under discussion will be presented at each of the sessions. Both events are free and open to the public.
