Nanakuli High and Intermediate School Arts and Communication Learning Center presents the Hawai'i premiere of Disney's "Beauty and the Beast." Students from Nanakuli High and Intermediate, Kapolei High and Wai'anae High schools come together for this musically rich spectacle featuring beloved characters Belle, the Beast, Cogsworth and others. At right, Kolei Kea is Lumiere. Tickets are $8 general, $5 students and $3 children 11 and younger.

DANCE: March 4-13

"Swoop, Tumble, Fly: The Art of Motion" is a dance program that features African fusion, hula set in the Victorian era and more. The audience is advised to arrive early for the live African-style drumming that precedes the fusion piece, which opens the show, titled "Illuminating the Spirit" and created by African dance specialist Chuck Davis. Tickets: $15 general, $12 seniors, military, UH faculty/staff, $10 nonUHM students, $3 UHM students.

The Castle Performing Arts Center bursts into song for "A Grand Night for Singing: The Music of Rodgers and Hammerstein." Students in grades 5-8 perform classic works from selected Broadway musicals for a night of timeless favorites. Choreography is by Mark Kanemura, and Ronald E. Bright directs. Tickets are $12 general and $8 for students, seniors and military.

Peter Rockford Espiritu and his Tau Dance Theater present the Hawaii-Japan Youth Cultural Exchange Concert with guest dancers from the Yuko Anami Ballet Studio, above, and HITS! Dance Space from Nagoya, Japan. Local youths joining in the performance include Kenny Endo's Taiko Center of the Pacific, Halau Hula Olana, Ballet Hawaii, Queen Emma Ballet, The Movement Center, Allegra Performing Arts Center and Pacific Youth Ballet. Learn the real story behind storybook siblings Hansel and Gretel's journey into the forest when Kaimuki High School Performing Arts Center presents "Hansel and Gretel," an original play based on the Grimm fairytale. Created by Peggy Anne Siegmund and the Kaimuki High School advanced acting class, the play is recommended for those in preschool through fourth grade. Below, Grant Uchida is Hansel, Mai Thanh Bui is Gretel. Cast members will be available for meet and greet while in costume after the play. Tickets are $8 general and students without ID, $5 children, high school students with ID and seniors over 65, and free for preschoolers.

Master fingerstyle guitarist Jeff Linsky, left, offers a concert of improvisations and original music. The self-taught musician and award-winning composer's heralded works include "Simpatico" and "Solo." Bassist Jennifer Leitham also performs. Tickets are $25.

Iona Contemporary Dance Theatre presents its latest offering, "Paint By Number," in conjunction with local hip-hop groove band Quadraphonix. This performance is the second in Iona's Salon Series and features the dancers blending visual art with performance art by using paint, Japanese butoh and contemporary dance. $17 in advance and $20 at the door.

COMEDY: March 19

Sure to bring in killer laughs, sharp-tongued comedian Margaret Cho, right, returns with a new one-woman show, "Assassin." Her cutting-edge humor and realistic anecdotes of life should make for a laugh-till-you-cry good time. Tickets: $25, $35, $45.

The miser Harpagon decides to marry off his children in an attempt to increase his wealth, making way for a clash of love and money. Joyce Maltby directs. Start your engines: The 2005 First Hawaiian International Auto Show is revving up the latest models of cars, trucks, minivans and sport utility vehicles for auto enthusiasts of all ages. Also on display will be pre-production models, specialty vehicles and concept cars. The Honolulu Advertiser is a sponsor. Diana Krall in concert

Tickets go on sale Saturday for a concert by Grammy-winning jazz vocalist/pianist Diana Krall, who will be joined by the Honolulu Symphony Pops, conducted by Matt Catingub, at the Waikiki Shell.

Show time is 7 p.m. May 8; gates open at 5:30 p.m.. Jazzing up April

Tickets are on sale now for the April 1-2 "Swingtime in Hawaii" Part II concerts in Waikiki and on Maui, a new component of the Hawaii International Jazz Festival. The concerts will spotlight jazz music during Hawai'i's Territorial years. Among the performers: Jimmy Borges, Gabe Baltazar, Ginai, Owana Salazar, Keahi Conjugacion and, from the Mainland, Grammy-nominated jazz pianist/composer Jessica Williams. The concerts take place at 8 p.m. April 1 at the ballroom of the Hyatt Regency Waikiki Resort and Spa (jam session follows at the old Trappers lounge); and at 8 p.m. at the ballroom of the Four Seasons Resort Maui in Wailea.
