Man accused of brutal acts

HILO, Hawai'i — A Big Island grand jury has indicted a Puna man on two counts of attempted second-degree murder for allegedly holding a woman captive for two months last year and repeatedly beating and raping her.

The indictment also charges Ernest "Ernie-boy" Horcajo III with kidnapping, first-degree assault, two counts of second-degree assault and three counts of second-degree sexual assault,

Horcajo's 19-year-old girlfriend was taken to Hilo Medical Center on Dec. 1 with life-threatening injuries that included six broken ribs, a broken nose, a broken jaw and a ruptured spleen and kidney, according to court records.

The indictment alleges Horcajo held the woman captive from Oct. 1 to Dec. 1, 2004, and beat her with a pipe and golf club.



School therapist reports threat

A 13-year-old Kaimuki Middle School student was arrested Wednesday after he allegedly threatened a school therapist with a 10-inch kitchen knife.

The therapist, 35, told police she was meeting alone with the boy in a therapy session about 2:05 p.m. when he took out a knife from his backpack and threatened her.

Police were called and arrested the boy for suspicion of first-degree terroristic threatening. The boy was released without charges pending further investigation.
