Baldwin stops Campbell for third place

Trenson Himalaya scored 27 points and Matt Heyd added 16 as third-seeded Baldwin rallied past Campbell, 65-62, last night in the third-place game of the HHSAA/Hawaiian Airlines Boys State Basketball Championship at Blaisdell Arena.

Baldwin, the Maui Interscholastic League champion, rallied from a 53-42 deficit with 4:48 remaining. Heyd hit two free throws with 20 seconds left to put Baldwin (14-1) up 63-62.

On Campbell's next possession, an entry pass intended for Mark Sealy was high and Himalaya came away with the steal. Sealy fouled Himalaya with 8 seconds left and he made two free throws for the final margin.

Himalaya scored 11 of Baldwin's final 23 points. He finished 9 of 11 from the field and 8 of 9 from the free-throw line.

Campbell's Tristan Bailey missed a 3-pointer from the left wing with 1 second left.

Bailey finished with 16 points and six assists for Campbell (13-4), the O'ahu Interscholastic Association runner-up.

FIFTH PLACE

Punahou 48, Kalaheo 39

Miah Ostrowski scored a game-high 15 points to lead Punahou in the fifth-place game.

Tate Brown had nine points to lead the Mustangs (13-5). David Moore and Marvin Judd added six apiece.

Spencer McLachlin had eight points and grabbed seven rebounds for Punahou.

Punahou led 23-21 at halftime.



CONSOLATION

Kaua'i 56, Waiakea 46

Josh Bradbury scored 20 points and Va'afuti Tavana added 19 to lead the Red Raiders (9-1) in the consolation final.

Chris Gorman had nine points to lead the Warriors (14-6).

Kaua'i rallied from a 25-22 halftime deficit with a 14-3 third quarter to take control.
