Wichita State sweeps UH-Hilo, 6-1

Joe Muich and Damon Sublett homered as Wichita State completed a five-game sweep of Hawai'i-Hilo yesterday with a 6-1 victory at Wong Stadium.

Muich batted 3 for 5 to lead a 12-hit offense by the Shockers (11-0).

Travis Banwart and Noah Booth teamed on a six-hitter with Booth working the final 3á innings to earn the victory. He yielded one hit and struck out four with no walks.

Jimmy Crider's RBI single in the second gave Hilo (1-22) a 1-0 lead.



WRESTLING

State meet this week

Kahuku's boys and Farrington's girls will try to defend their titles this week at the Hawai'i High School Athletic Association/Chevron State Wrestling Championships at Blaisdell Arena.

Qualifying rounds begin Friday at 10:30 a.m. with competition through quarterfinals running throughout the day.

Saturday's semifinals start at 10:30 a.m., with the girls championship round starting at 4:30 p.m. and the boys championship round at 6:30 p.m.

Admission is $9 for adults, and $5 for ages 62-older and students kindergarten through 12th grade. Blaisdell adds a 50-cent surcharge per ticket. Parking is $5.



GOLF

Cunningham, Asao win

Pro Ivan Cunningham and amateur Kellen-Floyd Asao each won playoffs to capture the 8th annual Hilo Invitational Pro-Am and Golf Tournament yesterday at the Hilo Municipal course.

Cunningham parred the first playoff hole to beat David Kim for the $5,000 first-place check. Both had finished at 1-under 141.

Asao sank a short birdie putt on the first playoff hole to beat Garrett Okamura. Both had finished at 4-under 138.



WATER POLO

Hawai'i takes fifth

Beth Novick and lefke Van Belkum scored in overtime as Hawai'i defeated UC Santa Barbara, 11-10, yesterday to capture fifth place in the Gaucho Invitational at Santa Barbara, Calif.

Monika Kruszona scored four goals and Van Belkum three for the Rainbow Wahine (6-6), who went 4-1 in the tournament.
