Architect, student win Co-op awards

Ronald Nakagawa, an architect with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, was named cooperative education supervisor of the year, and Brooke Bingaman, a meteorology major at the University of Hawai'i-Manoa, was named student of the year during the 11th annual Co-op awards reception in October.

The awards recognize an outstanding student and supervisor for their contributions in the business community and their commitment to the program at UH.

Cooperative education integrates classroom study with paid, planned and supervised work. It allows students to acquire practical skills, enhance their confidence and find career direction.

Bingaman, who works for the National Weather Service, received a plaque and a $250 scholarship.
