Kaua'i in full bloom at Rose parade
|
Ku Kilakila, the 300-strong marching band of students from schools throughout Kaua'i, brought a Hawaiian rainbow of color yesterday to the 116th Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, Calif. The marching unit comprised the band players; Tahitian and hula dancers, including members of an O'ahu halau; Junior ROTC members trained to perform as Hawaiian warriors; and a fire knife dancer.

Led by band director Larry McIntosh, now in his 40th year as director of the band program at Kaua'i High School, Ku Kilakila was a crowd pleaser with its performance of specially arranged Hawaiian music. The band returns to Hawai'i today and will perform together one last time for the Kauaian Days parade on Jan. 15.
