UH baseball ranked 42nd

Advertiser Staff

The University of Hawai'i baseball team is ranked 42nd in Baseball America's preseason Top 50, according to the publication's Web site.

It is the first time the Rainbows (31-24 overall, 13-16 Western Athletic Conference last season) have broken into Baseball America's rankings during the tenure of UH coach Mike Trapasso, who enters his fourth season.

The comment accompanying the ranking reads: "Coach Mike Trapasso's fourth team should end Hawai'i's 11-year regional drought."

Defending WAC champion Rice, which moves to Conference USA after this season, is ranked 18th. Fresno State is 44th.

The Rainbows open the season Feb. 10 with a four-game series against Alabama, which is ranked 43rd.
