Annual event set for Wednesday
Kahala Nui, a new senior living community, said earlier this week that it is looking to fill 225 positions with salaries ranging from $10 an hour to more than $50,000 a year. Kahala Nui's representatives will be attending the job fair as will the Hawai'i Air National Guard's, with more than 90 vacancies due to the Iraq war.
Other employers expected to be represented include Bank of Hawaii, Hawaii Health System Corp., Honolulu Police Department, FBI, Hilo Hattie, Sheraton, Hawaii Pacific Health, CTA Staffing and First Hawaiian Bank.
Companies looking to hire are facing one of the tightest job markets in recent history. Hawai'i's unemployment rate was the the nation's lowest for several months last year. Economist forecast the number of jobs in the state to grow by between 1.5 percent and 2.2 percent this year.
Last year, 4,900 people seeking employment attended the fair. Now in its eighth year, Job Quest will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. General admission is $2; students with ID pay $1.
Job Quest is sponsored by Oahu WorkLinks, Success Advertising and CareerBuilder.com.
