Wilson, Kelly to lead family clinic Sunday

Advertiser Staff

Hawai'i's Dean Wilson and Jerry Kelly, the 2002 Sony Open champion, will conduct a family golf clinic Sunday at 4 p.m. at the Waialae Country Club.

Tomorrow

The 2005 Hawai'i golf calendar, listing all of the local tournaments in the state, will be published in tomorrow's Total Rec page.

Wilson and Kelly will demonstrate driving, pitching, chipping, putting, and will ask for participation.

Admission is free for the clinic sponsored by Kraft Foods.

Both are scheduled to play in the Sony Open in Hawai'i, which runs Jan. 13 to Jan. 16 at Waialae Country Club.

For information, call 523-7888 or 792-9301.

Palmer, Trevino, Player at MasterCard

Three of golf's biggest names — Arnold Palmer, Gary Player and Lee Trevino — have accepted sponsor exemptions to play in the MasterCard Championship at Hualalai Golf Club on the Big Island.

The event, Jan. 17 to 23, kicks off the Champions Tour's 25th season.

Palmer, Player and Trevino, all members of the World Golf Hall of Fame, have combined to win 202 PGA Tour and Champions Tour events.

Palmer will be at Hualalai for the second year in a row while Player will compete for the fourth year in a row. Trevino will be playing for the 13th time.

The MasterCard Championship features the winners of the Champions Tour major championships of the past five years and winners of the Champions Tour official tournaments over the past two years.

Honolulu Country Club to honor Aoki

The Honolulu Country Club will honor Champions Tour player Isao Aoki in a golf tournament open to everyone on Jan. 21, starting with a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m.

Aoki, a member of the club, won the 1983 United Airlines Hawaiian Open with a dramatic eagle-3 on the final hole. He will be the guest of honor at the awards dinner at which time a video highlight of his recent induction into the World Golf Hall of Fame will be shown.

Entry fee is $250 for each member of a set foursome or $300 for individual players. For more information, call Dave Kowalczyk at 441-9424.
