Readers: Submit your writing to an upcoming Advertiser feature, "The Island Art of Rice." Submit your essay, memoir, fictional story or poem of 500 words or fewer on any aspect of Hawai'i's "rice ways." Submissions will be judged on the quality of writing, creativity and uniqueness.
We are looking for insightful work in keeping with the spirit and theme of the Honolulu Academy of Arts' upcoming "Art of Rice" exhibit, which explores rice as cultural metaphor.
Awards: Three winners receive family memberships to the Academy of Arts, free admission to the "Art of Rice" exhibit and rice-related prizes. Deadline: Postmarked Feb. 4. Additional rules: Maximum 500 words. Closed to employees of The Honolulu Advertiser and the Honolulu Academy of Arts. Judges' decisions final. Winners must sign contract granting rights to use work in print and online. Send entries to:
