UH-Hilo, Chaminade prevail in PacWest

Osadonor Esene scored 26 points as 25th-ranked Hawai'i-Hilo defeated Montana State-Billings, 76-61, last night in a Pacific West Conference game at the Hilo civic.

Alex Cabagnot added 17 points and Justin Dobson 12 rebounds for the Vulcans, who improved to 14-1 overall and 2-1 in the PacWest.

Buddy Windy Boy scored 19 points and Justin Hassell contributed 17 points and 11 rebounds for the Yellowjackets (8-3, 0-3).

Esene scored 15 points as Hilo took a 43-25 lead. Montana State-Billings got as close as 55-48 with 7:14 to play before the Vulcans pulled away.

Elsewhere in the PacWest last night, Dustin Mittelsteadt had 25 points and nine rebounds as Chaminade beat Western New Mexico, 93-83, at McCabe Gym.

Dylan McCune added 16 points, and Chris Reaves contributed 15 points and 10 assists for the Silverswords, who improved to 9-4 overall and 3-0 in the PacWest.

Mike Sells scored 17 points for the Mustangs (5-7, 0-2).

Kamehameha cruises to 25-0 victory

Laua'e Emmsley-Chang batted 5 for 6 to lead a 25-hit attack as Kamehameha defeated Mid-Pacific, 25-0, yesterday in an Interscholastic League of Honolulu softball game.

Kau'i Tom and Hoku Nohara each had five RBIs for the Warriors.
