Mayor names five deputy directors

 •  Nominee for top city aide pulls out

Mayor Mufi Hannemann appointed five deputy directors to his Cabinet yesterday:

• Wayne M. Hashiro, Department of Design and Construction. He has been a civil engineer with the Army Corps of Engineers for the past 10 years, and served as a congressional fellow for Sen. Daniel Akaka, D-Hawai'i, in 1994-95.

• Gail Y. Haraguchi, Department of Enterprise Services. She has been vice president and manager of the Honolulu office of San Francisco engineering firm GKO and Associates since 1995. Haraguchi is also a member of the Hawai'i Tourism Authority.

• Kenneth A. Shimizu, Department of Environmental Services. He is president and chief executive officer of Retail Solutions Inc., an 'Aiea information technology company. Shimizu is also corporate secretary/treasurer for Mazzo Inc., a Waipahu sporting goods distributor.

• George "Keoki" Miyamoto, Department of Facility Maintenance. He held that post in Mayor Jeremy Harris' administration, and has served as acting director of transportation services since September. Miyamoto is an engineer who has also held positions with the state departments of Land and Natural Resources, and Transportation.

• Dana Takahara Dias, Department of Parks and Recreation. She was athletic director of Moanalua High School and has also been a special-education teacher.
